Richmond Rotary Club has made a donation to Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR).

Andy Wilson from the charity gave a talk to the club recently.

He outlined YCR’s history in funding drugs to treat cancer which resulted in global success with tamoxifen and lymparza for breast and ovarian cancer.

He said that today the cost of developing new drugs is beyond the organisation’s budget.

He said the mission was now to aim to give “everyone in Yorkshire the best chance of living a long and healthy life with, without and after cancer”.

This involves funding prevention awareness activities and supporting screening and clinical trials in the region.

At the end of the evening Richmond Rotary president Emma Fulton thanked Andy for his talk and presented him with a cheque for £500.

She said: “It is a pleasure to support a world-renowned organisation that is making a difference to so many people’s lives in Yorkshire.”
