Two young competitors from Chipping Norton’s Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) are heading to a National Championship.

Tilly Mantell, Kirsty Clarke and Guy Salter all took to the saddle for the RDA regional Dressage and Countryside Challenge on Wednesday, May 18.

The one-day event was held at West Wiltshire Equestrian Centre.

The three Gloucestershire riders competed on two horses, Bandit and Indi, provided by Regal Equestrian in Whichford.

Between them they achieved two first places and third in their dressage classes.

The riders were also placed 2nd, 5th and 8th in the Countryside Challenge which tested the three riders’ abilities with a number of obstacles. They included a road junction and bridge, picking apples from a tree, opening a gate and posting a letter.

Tilly qualified for dressage and the Countryside Challenge, and Kirsty earned a place in the dressage. Both will go on to represent the Chipping Norton branch at the National Championships which is set to take place at Hartpury Equestrian Centre on Sunday, July 17.

Tilly’s supporter said: “Tilly was on a high all day and couldn’t wait to take her rosettes into school to show her classmates and teachers.”

The RDA’s volunteers meet regularly at Regal Equestrian and support riders to learn to ride and encourage them to gain confidence around horses.
