We launched the competition asking children across the country to create festive pictures and the winners were turned into limited- edition cards, thanks to printed.com.

Sales of the cards were used to buy gifts for children staying in the charity’s special Homes from Home, where young cancer patients and their families can stay during gruelling treatment. And this week Santa delivered those presents.

Florentina Burton, four, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in May this year, beamed when she received a kinetic sand kit.

Her parents, Amelia and Kevin, watched adoringly as she opened the present at St Paul’s House, a Home from Home in London, where the family have been staying while Florentina receives treatment.

Amelia, 33, said: “Florentina loves Father Christmas. We didn’t think she’d get to see him this year but getting a visit and a present from him is amazing.”

Little Sumayyah Hassan was diagnosed with leukaemia at just 19 months old and spent six months in Great Ormond Street Hospital.

After chemotherapy the four-year-old relapsed but has now had a stem cell donation from her mum Amira, 32, who said: “It’s so lovely to see Sumayyah having a lovely time with Father Christmas. When your child is diagnosed with cancer, Christmases become so precious.”

Santa also visited 23-month-old Matthew Innes, who fell ill in March with neuroblastoma. But his illness didn’t stop him kicking his new football from Santa.

Matthew’s parents Carolyn and Callum are staying at Marion’s House in Glasgow while he has treatment.

Carolyn said: “Meeting Santa has been amazing. Matthew loves him. Despite everything, he is still a normal wee boy who likes football, cars, dinosaurs — and Santa.”

Sarah, Duchess of York, said: “I’ve been working to help young people with cancer for the last 30 years. The Sun on Sunday’s Xmas Cards For Kids campaign is a wonderful idea.

“The thought of so many children creating cards to help those battling cancer is fantastic.”
