A Carrickfergus woman has opened up on how her confidence has been transformed after suffering 16 years of hair loss.

Natalie McGann travelled to Brentwood, Essex back in September to have a hair transplant after her hair started thinning as a teenager.

The 31-year-old had developed bald patches, and says at school her self-confidence was shattered as she was subject to harsh comments from other young people.

The mum-of-one has opened up on her hair loss journey to help others who are going through the same.

She told Be : “It really started in my teens and I don’t know if it was to do with my hormones or what the issue was. I was about 15, so it wasn’t a nice age and it gradually started thinning, especially in the temple area.

“Over the years, especially once I had my child aged 25, you started noticing it and it was coming out in bald spots. It progressively got worse.

“It big time affected my confidence. More so when you are a teenager, you are still at school and getting harsh comments from other people, so it is not very nice.

“I remember being on holiday, it was always thin but I had plenty of it, once I came back, there was a bit of stress going on, I started suffering a low thyroid too which may have played a part, but within a couple weeks of coming back, you really, really noticed.”

The Carrickfergus woman had went to see a specialist to help understand the cause of her hair loss, and says she was told it was in her genes – but that her family have thick, wavy hair.

Natalie said she was always looking at ways to transform her hair through the likes of extensions and assumed a transplant was ‘just for men’.

“I never ever thought it would be for women. I didn’t think I would be a good candidate for it, as my hair is thin all over. I just thought you would have like thicker hair with bald areas. I didn’t think I could ever get it done.

“My husband actually looked into getting it done and went abroad, it turned out a botched job and wasn’t a good experience for him.

“I kept researching and researching and seen a few women celebs had got it done… I started researching a year ago and knew straight off I was going to go for it but didn’t get over with Covid.

“They video called me to do an interview and looked at my hair …….
