The festive period is always a busy time for Royal Mail and, consequently, leads to delayed mail for many Britons. However, due to Covid-related issues, these delays are still happening across the country this week.

Today, Royal Mail has warned customers of more delays up and down the country.

The company explained it operates an air, rail, and road network to move letters and parcels between its distribution hubs, mail processing centres, and delivery offices around the UK.

Although its air, rail, and road networks have been operating to schedule over the last 24 hours, there are some issues with the postal service’s mail centres.

Today, January 7, four mail centres are affected by delays.

As for deliveries, Royal Mail continued: “Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as Covid-related self-isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

Britons have yet again taken to social media over the past 24 hours to complain about missed or delayed mail.

Twitter user Brenda Watson wrote: “@RoyalMail a package was posted over to me from the UK to Ireland on the 14th December and has still not arrived. Are there delays? This seems like it’s taking a bit too long.”

Ejike said: “@RoyalMail I have a parcel that has been stuck at Princess Royal DC for two days now. Why the delay?”

Rebecca O’Connor added: “@RoyalMail why is my signed for 1st class letter with tracking still showing at my drop off point. Sent 29th December. Important documentation I get a day or two delay but this takes the mick, I could have walked and hand delivered it there quicker.”
